Aitana Bonmatí

Professional footballer

Born 1998

Aitana Bonmatí is a Catalan midfielder for FC Barcelona and Spain whose close control, spatial awareness and competitive intensity have made her one of the defining footballers of her generation. The only girl in her earliest boys' teams, she entered Barcelona's academy as a teenager and reached the senior side in 2016. She became central to four UEFA Women's Champions League titles, Spain's 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and back-to-back Nations League triumphs, while winning the Ballon d'Or and The Best FIFA Women's Player award in 2023, 2024 and 2025. A five-month recovery from a broken left fibula ended with her May 2026 comeback and a fourth European title; as of September 26, 2026, Barcelona was still managing residual ankle discomfort before her 2026/27 return.
