Alia Bhatt

Actress and producer

Born 1993

Alia Bhatt is a British actress and producer who was born and raised in Mumbai and works principally in Hindi cinema. In a 2019 interview, she recalled enjoying the attention of a school singing performance at four. Her childhood screen appearance in Sangharsh preceded a leading debut in Student of the Year, where she played Shanaya Singhania. Highway moved her into a road drama as Veera Tripathi, while 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania continued her romantic-film work. The following years brought the ensemble Kapoor & Sons, the crime drama Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. Raazi placed her at the centre of a spy story as Sehmat Khan, followed by Safeena in Gully Boy and Roop in Kalank. Gangubai Kathiawadi became an important dramatic milestone, earning both Filmfare recognition and a shared National Film Award. Her 2022 record also includes RRR, Darlings and Brahmastra. Darlings opened another career track: Netflix identifies it as her first feature production through Eternal Sunshine, which she founded with Shaheen Bhatt. She subsequently became an executive producer on Richie Mehta’s Poacher and co-produced Jigra, in which she plays Satya. Heart of Stone extended her screen work into an English-language thriller, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani returned her to a Hindi romantic ensemble. Her record includes television interviews and separately credited film singing, including Sooha Saaha in Highway, and promotional music videos. She wrote the children’s picture book Ed Finds a Home, illustrated by Tanvi Bhat, and was included on the TIME100 list. More recent work includes Alpha and producing Don’t Be Shy; Love & War and the announced Tumbbad 2 remain forthcoming. In her direct anniversary interview she describes producing as a broader view of filmmaking and discusses choosing work with more deliberation. Dated interviews also document music, food and beauty choices, with historical preferences kept distinct from a current routine.
