Anne Hathaway is an American actor and producer who grew up in Millburn, New Jersey. She trained at the Paper Mill Playhouse, the Barrow Group and the CAP21 musical-theatre program and developed her craft with Barrow Group teacher Seth Barrish. In later role research, she combined preparation with an intuitive response to scene partners, working with researcher Amy Hammond and dialect coach Jerome Butler on WeCrashed. The family drama Get Real preceded her film breakthrough as Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries. Ella Enchanted and the Princess Diaries sequel established her family-film work, while Havoc, Brokeback Mountain and The Devil Wears Prada broadened her range. Playing Kym in Rachel Getting Married brought her first Oscar nomination; Fantine in Les Misérables brought the supporting-actress Oscar. Her subsequent roles include Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, Amelia Brand in Interstellar, Jules Ostin in The Intern, Gloria in Colossal and Rebekah Neumann in WeCrashed. She has also produced projects including Song One and The Idea of You, performed on stage in Twelfth Night and Grounded, and won an Emmy for The Simpsons. Her 2026 work spans Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity. Alongside filmmaking, she advocates for affordable childcare and shared parental leave as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.
