Born 1997
Becky G is the stage name of Rebbeca Marie Gomez, an American singer and actress born in Inglewood, California, on March 2, 1997. The oldest of four children, she grew up with music around her and performed in family talent shows with her cousins. After her family lost its home, they moved into her grandparents’ garage. She recalled deciding for herself that entertainment could help support them, rather than being pushed into performing by her parents. Those circumstances helped turn childhood ambition into paid work and a determination to build a career. She worked in commercials and appeared in KIDZ BOP as a child. In her 2022 cover interview, she said she left high school and did not graduate. An early recording contract arrived at fourteen, while she was still living in the converted garage with her family. The signing linked a career developed through online performances with the established music industry, bringing professional opportunities before adulthood. Her Play It Again EP was released in July 2013. After the English-language success of Shower, she increasingly concentrated on Spanish-language music. Her 2020 Cosmopolitan interview described that change as a path towards artistic confidence rather than a retreat from her bilingual identity. Sola, released in 2016, helped establish that direction. Speaking about Esquemas in 2022, she recalled being the child who translated between school staff and her family, a responsibility that later resonated with a bilingual career. Her musical interests extend beyond the collaborators on her own records: she described admiration for artists including Bruno Mars, Giveon and Normani. Her debut studio album, Mala Santa, arrived in October 2019. In its accompanying Apple Music interview, she described wanting the record to reflect who she had become, with Spanish-language pop, reggaeton and R&B alongside collaborations. Esquemas followed in May 2022, building on MAMIII with Karol G and including Ram Pam Pam with Natti Natasha. Acting developed alongside music. Playing Trini, the Yellow Ranger, in Power Rangers gave her an opportunity to discuss representation and Mexican American identity with TIME in 2017. Her 2018 LADYGUNN interview considered the different demands of recording, touring and acting. She explained that characters in music videos offered another outlet for storytelling, while film work allowed her to explore a personality beyond the singer audiences knew. She later voiced Khaji-Da in Blue Beetle. Esquinas turned towards regional Mexican music in 2023. Edgar Barrera worked with her on the album, and Querido Abuelo paid tribute to her grandfather Miguel. The period also brought her first US headline tour, Mi Casa Tu Casa. Encuentros continued her exploration of música mexicana in October 2024. Its collaborations included Tito Double P and Óscar Maydon, while songs ranged across cumbia and sierreño arrangements. The documentary Rebbeca entered Tribeca’s 2025 festival catalogue, with Jennifer Tiexiera and Gabriela Cavanagh directing and Gomez among its executive producers. The film follows the creation of her first regional Mexican album and the relationship between her professional life, cultural background and family. Netflix lists the film as a 2025 documentary. By August 2026, she was discussing a fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita, alongside the documentary and her continuing performance schedule. Her NewBeauty interview connected that work with a childhood spent recreating performances by Shakira, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and highlighted Te Olvido (La La), her collaboration with Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez. Baraja Bendita was released on August 14, 2026. In an August 2026 Rolling Stone en Español interview, she described Baraja Bendita as a return to pop and urban rhythms after Esquinas and Encuentros. She chose to leave its songs without guest vocal features, while crediting the writers and producers who helped shape them. On October 2, an announcement confirmed a forthcoming Superstar Q&A at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami Beach. The event was scheduled for October 19–22, so the appearance remained ahead of her at the time of review.
