Bruno Mars

Singer-songwriter, musician and producer

Born 1985

Bruno Mars is an American singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and producer born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu. He grew up in a performing family and appeared as Little Elvis in his father’s Waikiki show. After a short-lived Motown deal, his Los Angeles career shifted toward writing for other performers. He developed a writing and production partnership with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. The Smeezingtons supplied songs for other performers before Mars’s featured vocals on B.o.B’s Nothin’ on You and Travie McCoy’s Billionaire helped introduce his own recordings. Doo-Wops & Hooligans established a solo career that continued with Unorthodox Jukebox and 24K Magic. His work combines pop songwriting with soul, funk and R&B, supported by live instrumental performance and choreography. Collaborations extend from Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk to Adele’s All I Ask, and to An Evening with Silk Sonic, made with Anderson .Paak. Mars also voiced himself in The Cleveland Show and Roberto in Rio 2, appeared in Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams documentary, hosted Saturday Night Live and executive-produced a television concert at the Apollo Theater. He has co-directed numerous music videos, including collaborations with Cardi B, Lady Gaga and other performers. The Romantic, his fourth solo studio album, arrived in February 2026; its chart debut and the announced global stadium tour opened a new phase. His catalogue now also includes the Karol G collaboration Still and the October Dance With Me release and video. Personal interests are attributed to dated interviews: his childhood R&B listening, favourite songs and historical dog are documented without presenting those answers as a current routine.
