Chris Evans

Actor, director and producer

Born 1981

Chris Evans is an American actor and filmmaker whose career moves between superhero films, comedy and intimate drama. Raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts, he entered professional acting after a childhood shaped by local theatre. At Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School he combined theatre with wrestling and lacrosse, then spent a summer interning with a New York casting company and studying at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Early work included The Newcomers and Opposite Sex; Not Another Teen Movie brought a studio-comedy breakthrough. He played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four before becoming Steve Rogers in Captain America and the Avengers films. He initially declined the Captain America commitment before accepting a reduced deal. In his 2023 GQ interview he described the appeal of ensemble and supporting parts. Alongside those blockbusters he pursued Sunshine, Snowpiercer, Gifted and Knives Out, often taking characters far removed from the earnest superhero. Before We Go marked his feature directing debut, and Lobby Hero brought him to Broadway. He later starred in and executive produced Defending Jacob, voiced Buzz Lightyear and appeared in The Gray Man and Pain Hustlers. Beyond screen work, he co-created the civic platform A Starting Point with Mark Kassen and Joe Kiani. His recent film record includes Materialists and Honey Don’t!. Netflix schedules Sacrifice, in which he acts and executive produces, for October 2026 streaming; Disney lists his return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday for December 2026.
