Chris Hemsworth

Actor and producer

Born 1983

Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor and producer whose career began in television before his Hollywood breakthrough as Thor. Growing up in Victoria, he surfed with his brothers Luke and Liam and followed Luke into an after-school acting course. Early appearances in Guinevere Jones, Neighbours and The Saddle Club led to playing Kim Hyde in Home and Away. He later described the demanding soap schedule as practical training that taught him to work quickly with different directors. For Thor, he valued Kenneth Branagh’s emphasis on character and family conflict alongside the effects. His American film debut as George Kirk in Star Trek preceded the first Thor film and the Avengers ensemble. Beyond Marvel, he has played racing driver James Hunt in Rush, Owen Chase in In the Heart of the Sea, the Huntsman, and comic roles in Vacation and Ghostbusters. Bad Times at the El Royale, Spiderhead and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga expanded his work with darker characters. The Extraction films pair his Tyler Rake performance with producing, while his company Wild State also develops documentary and scripted projects with Ben Grayson. His screen work includes National Geographic's Limitless, the family documentary A Road Trip to Remember and the 2026 thriller Crime 101. His forthcoming projects include Avengers: Doomsday and Extraction 3, which began filming in Australia in July 2026.
