Daniel Radcliffe is an English actor and producer whose career spans film, television, voice work and theatre. Born in Fulham, London, to casting agent Marcia Gresham and literary agent Alan Radcliffe, he first performed in school productions before becoming Young David in the television adaptation David Copperfield. The Tailor of Panama followed with the role of Mark. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone introduced his title role in 2001. The screen series concluded with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011. Between Potter productions he appeared as Maps in December Boys. My Boy Jack gave him the television role of John Kipling. Stage work began in London with Alan Strang in Equus in 2007.
He took Equus to Broadway, then played J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Billy in The Cripple of Inishmaan and Jim in The Lifespan of a Fact. His education also continued outside a conventional school timetable: after leaving school at seventeen, he kept discussing English literature with his former teacher on set. Post-Potter film work began with Arthur Kipps in The Woman in Black. Kill Your Darlings cast him as the poet Allen Ginsberg. Horns supplied the contrasting role of Ig Perrish. What If placed him in a contemporary romantic comedy as Wallace.
Victor Frankenstein cast him as Igor. Swiss Army Man gave him Manny, an unconventional physical and comic role. Imperium moved into an undercover story with Nate Foster. Jungle cast him as Yossi Ghinsberg. Guns Akimbo added the action-comedy role of Miles. Escape from Pretoria followed with Tim Jenkin. The Lost City brought another comic variation as Abigail Fairfax. The Gamechangers added Sam Houser to his television roles in 2015. He also voiced a comic version of himself in BoJack Horseman. Lost in London cast him under his own name. The Robot Chicken Walking Dead special supplied the voice of Gareth in 2017. Theatre remained a parallel career: Privacy involved technology and audience interaction at New York’s Public Theater. At The Old Vic he played Rosencrantz opposite Joshua McGuire’s Guildenstern in 2017. He returned there as Clov in Endgame in 2020, opposite Alan Cumming. In his October 2022 interview he described the freedom to choose unusual work after Potter. Weird offered a comic interpretation of Al Yankovic rather than a conventional biographical performance. He learned accordion for the production, combining new skills with an interest in character-driven comedy.
Miracle Workers also expanded his responsibilities into producing: he described involvement in development, pre-production and casting while keeping acting his task on set. He later executive-produced David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, about his former stunt double. Merrily We Roll Along earned him the 2024 Tony for a featured musical performance. Every Brilliant Thing followed with a leading-play nomination in 2026. A February 2026 conversation describes his pleasure in fatherhood and a career shaped by personal fulfilment. He accepts that Potter will remain part of his identity and sees its audience as a route to his later work. Television comedies were formative interests, helping explain his continuing attraction to lighter roles. NBC renewed The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins for a second season in May 2026. Netflix’s July announcement names him as the Prince in Steps, scheduled for November 20, 2026. His public service includes The Trevor Project’s Hero Award, presented in June 2011.
