Harrison Ford

Actor

Born 1942

Harrison Ford is an American actor born in Chicago, Illinois, whose career connects science fiction, adventure, thrillers and romantic comedy. At Ripon College, playing Mr. Antrobus in The Skin of Our Teeth helped him discover a community in acting. He made his screen debut in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round and appeared in American Graffiti before Star Wars made Han Solo an international screen character. During his early acting career, he taught himself carpentry to support his family and gain more freedom over the roles he accepted. Raiders of the Lost Ark introduced his Indiana Jones, a character he revisited through Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. His performance as detective John Book in Witness earned an Academy Award nomination, while The Mosquito Coast took him into a darker family drama. He moved between action and romantic comedy, including the fugitives and political figures of The Fugitive and Air Force One and the contrasting worlds of Working Girl and Sabrina. His later television work pairs Jacob Dutton, the patriarch in 1923, with Dr. Paul Rhoades, the therapist in Shrinking. Captain America: Brave New World added President Thaddeus Ross to his screen roles, continuing the character previously played by William Hurt. Apple renewed Shrinking for a fourth season before its third season premiered, extending the comedy's run. SAG-AFTRA's Life Achievement Award recognizes a career that also encompasses flying and environmental advocacy. His connection with Indiana Jones continues beyond cinema: Disney announced him as the model for a new Audio-Animatronics figure at Animal Kingdom. His career honors include the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award and induction as a Disney Legend.
