Born 2001
Iga Świątek is a Polish professional tennis player born in Warsaw. Her father Tomasz was an Olympic rower, and her older sister’s tennis helped draw her into the sport. In a signed essay she recalled growing up outside Warsaw, training in imperfect conditions and gradually learning to navigate the public attention that accompanied success. As a teenager, she balanced the tour with school examinations and described mathematics as a useful part of tennis: understanding angles helped her make tactical choices on court. Her interest in logic provided a link between classroom work and match preparation.
She won on her professional debut at an ITF tournament in Stockholm in 2016. She won the Roland-Garros junior doubles title with Caty McNally in 2018. Junior Wimbledon followed that year; a Lugano final and Roland-Garros fourth round marked her first senior-tour breakthroughs in 2019. Her first senior singles title came at Roland-Garros in 2020. Adelaide and Rome wins followed in 2021.
The 2022 season brought her first world No. 1 ranking, a 37-match winning run and titles at Roland-Garros and the US Open. She added further Paris championships in 2023 and 2024, won the 2023 WTA Finals and received successive WTA Player of the Year awards. Olympic singles bronze in Paris in 2024 and her first Wimbledon title in 2025 extended that career across surfaces and formats. Her titles span Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, Madrid, Rome, Warsaw, Beijing, Cincinnati and Seoul.
She also played on Poland’s winning United Cup team in January 2026. After a coaching change in spring 2026, she worked with Francisco Roig and won Toronto in August. September reporting confirms her US Open round-of-16 loss and inclusion in the China Open’s initial field.
Away from matches, her official reading lists and Read with Iga challenge document a sustained interest in books. Netflix and CANAL+ documentaries feature her as herself. She established the Iga Świątek Foundation in July 2025, and its first scholarships were presented that December to young Polish athletes.
