Jackie Chan

Actor, filmmaker, stunt performer and singer

Born 1954

Jackie Chan is a Hong Kong actor, director, producer, action choreographer, stunt performer and singer who transformed screen fighting by combining martial arts, acrobatics, prop work and physical comedy. Born Chan Kong-sang, he entered the China Drama Academy at seven and spent a decade studying Peking Opera performance, martial arts, acrobatics, acting and singing. After child roles and stunt work, he rejected attempts to cast him as another Bruce Lee and developed a comic, vulnerable action persona in Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow and Drunken Master. Project A and Police Story consolidated a hands-on filmmaking method built around the JC Stunt Team, elaborate practical set pieces and visible outtakes. Rumble in the Bronx and Rush Hour later made him a global star, while his career expanded through directing, producing, animation voice work, music, philanthropy and a memoir. In 2025 he returned as Mr. Han in Karate Kid: Legends and received Locarno’s Pardo alla Carriera. His 2026 work includes leading the drama Unexpected Family and the comedy sequel Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe, releasing the song Congratulations to Myself, making his operatic directing debut with Turandot, and filming Armour of God: Ultimatum in Kazakhstan.
