Jimin

Singer, songwriter and dancer

Born 1995

Jimin is the South Korean singer, songwriter and dancer Park Ji-min, born in Busan. After-school breakdancing led to modern-dance study at Busan High School of Arts. His father recalled an essay explaining how he would combine dance study with his ambition to become a K-pop performer. He later described the difficulty of adapting modern dance to idol choreography. He debuted with BTS in June 2013. Wings developed the group’s recording catalogue. Love Yourself: Answer brought together another album series. Map of the Soul: 7 followed in 2020. Solo performances including Lie, Serendipity and Filter introduced different aspects of his voice within BTS. Promise developed his separate songwriting. Christmas Love added another personal recording. Friends paired him with V, while VIBE later paired him with his childhood musical idol Taeyang. He coordinated members’ ideas for BE and described improvising the bridge of Dis-ease. With You, recorded with Ha Sung-woon for Our Blues, expanded his soundtrack work. The Angel collaborations joined him with American pop performers. FACE addressed his experience of the pandemic period. MUSE explored an imagined search for love with producers Pdogg and GHSTLOOP. Like Crazy topped the Billboard Hot 100. His solo recognition includes the 2024 MAMA Fans’ Choice of the Year award. Are You Sure?! follows his travels with Jung Kook. In 2026, he returned to BTS’s ARIRANG recording era. He described increased songwriting confidence and developing They Don’t Know ’Bout Us through a discussion with RM. Jimin’s Production Diary records the making of his solo music.
