Julia Roberts is an American actor and producer who grew up in Smyrna, Georgia. Her parents ran an integrated acting workshop; Yolanda King recalled its welcoming environment in CNN’s profile. After Campbell High School, Roberts moved to New York to pursue acting alongside her siblings. Her early New York jobs included waiting tables and selling shoes. Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias brought early attention, followed by Pretty Woman, romantic comedies and thrillers. Her Oscar-winning Erin Brockovich performance widened a career that also includes Closer, August: Osage County, Wonder and Ben Is Back. She made her Broadway debut in Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain, playing Nan and Lina. Voice work includes Charlotte’s Web and Smurfs: The Lost Village. Her producing extends to American Girl films, Homecoming and Leave the World Behind; television acting also includes The Normal Heart and Gaslit. In Homecoming she combined the lead performance with executive producing and discussed shaping its creative approach. After the Hunt paired her with Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield under Luca Guadagnino’s direction and brought a 2026 Golden Globe nomination. She is also attached as actor and producer to Sam Esmail’s Panic Carefully, reported for an April 2027 release.
