Kevin Durant

Basketball player

Born 1988

Kevin Wayne Durant is an American basketball player whose professional record runs from Seattle and Oklahoma City through Golden State, Brooklyn, Phoenix and Houston. He grew up around Seat Pleasant, Maryland, where his mother Wanda and coach Taras Brown encouraged him through doubts about basketball. His school route included National Christian Academy, Oak Hill Academy and Montrose Christian before Texas. A 2012 interview recalls the recreation centre as a place where he trained, studied and sometimes slept. His route to that career included a single season at the University of Texas in 2006–07. The Longhorns’ record describes a freshman who became consensus national player of the year, won the Wooden and Naismith honours and entered the 2007 draft as Seattle’s second overall selection. His rookie campaign brought the NBA Rookie of the Year award. The franchise then moved to Oklahoma City, where he developed into a league MVP and reached the NBA Finals. His later Golden State period produced championships and Finals MVP honours in 2017 and 2018. The university eventually recognised that professional career alongside its college record through a 2022 Hall of Honor induction. That institutional distinction is separate from the professional basketball Hall of Fame. International basketball forms another sustained career thread. His FIBA player record includes the 2010 World Championship and Olympic tournaments in London, Rio, Tokyo and Paris. Tokyo 2020 was held in 2021, when he also received the tournament MVP award. Paris brought a fourth Olympic gold, a men’s basketball record reviewed by USA Basketball in its anniversary series. His screen work spans acting and production. Thunderstruck casts him as Kevin Durant, while The Offseason lists an executive-producer role. SHOWTIME’s Basketball County: In the Water looks at the Prince George’s County basketball environment with Durant and Rich Kleiman as executive producers. Apple describes Swagger as a drama inspired by his youth-basketball experience, rather than a literal account of his life. Two Distant Strangers adds a separate executive-production credit; that credit is not presented as a personal Academy Award. SHOWTIME’s NYC Point Gods announcement also documents a collaboration with Boardroom. His broader screen record includes Q Ball and The Trainer as an executive producer, and appearances in Jump Shot, The Boardroom, Court of Gold and Starting 5’s second season. Netflix announced a separate career documentary in October 2025; that announcement does not establish a release. The current interview record includes an August 2026 conversation with Speedy Morman on that co-owned media platform, where Durant discusses possible work beyond playing. These ambitions are kept distinct from appointments or completed outcomes. His personal-life record is similarly dated: the January 2015 cover interview acknowledges a former engagement, while his later public single statement belongs to 2024. The lifestyle shelf preserves his own accounts of reading, music, food and preparation with their dates. It does not convert an old training interview or a brand conversation into a permanent routine.
