Leonardo DiCaprio

Actor and film producer

Born 1974

Leonardo DiCaprio is an American actor and producer whose work ranges from romantic dramas to crime films, historical stories and environmental documentaries. The only child of Irmelin and George DiCaprio, he grew up in Los Angeles with a German-born mother and a father who worked in comics. In his childhood recollections, he entertained visitors with impressions and his parents introduced him to museums and art. Commercial work led to Parenthood and Growing Pains while he was still at school. He later recalled studying movies on rented VHS tapes before This Boy's Life. What's Eating Gilbert Grape brought his first Oscar nomination; Romeo + Juliet and Titanic established his international visibility. His collaborations with Martin Scorsese include Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street and Killers of the Flower Moon. He won the leading-actor Oscar for The Revenant and starred as Bob in Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. Through Appian Way, his producing work spans environmental documentaries, the animated Ozi: Voice of the Forest and the thriller series Shining Girls. His 2026 work includes executive-producing The Lake, releasing Yanuni through his official YouTube channel, and starring in and producing Scorsese's What Happens at Night, whose Czech production was announced in March.
