Luka Doncic

Basketball player

Born 1999

Luka Dončić is a Slovenian basketball player whose career connects Real Madrid, Dallas and Los Angeles with national-team competition. He attended Miran Jarc primary school in Ljubljana. He recalls playing outdoor basketball after school and trying tennis and soccer in childhood. He joined Real Madrid’s youth programme in 2012 and made his senior debut on April 30, 2015. Junior EuroLeague championship and MVP recognition followed in May. In 2018, he helped Madrid win the EuroLeague, earning season and Final Four MVP honours, All-EuroLeague First Team selection and Spanish league MVP recognition. Atlanta selected him third in the 2018 draft before a draft-night trade to Dallas. His completed NBA record follows Mavericks seasons and subsequent Lakers campaigns, with scoring titles and All-NBA selections. Rookie of the Year and Western Conference Finals MVP honours mark other stages of that progression. National-team basketball remains another thread: Slovenia won its first European championship in 2017, when Dončić also received All-Star recognition. His international record includes Tokyo 2020, held in 2021, EuroBasket and World Cup competition. The 2024 Olympic qualifying tournament is distinct from an appearance at the Olympic Games. At EuroBasket 2025, he received a second All-Star selection; this honour is distinct from the tournament MVP award. His screen work includes playing Luka Doncic in Hustle. The documentary 2017 credits him as himself. Clutch: The NBA Playoffs also records a documentary appearance. He is an executive producer of Everything It Takes, the docuseries about Slovenia’s 2023 World Cup journey. That production connects him with 77X, director Andy Madeleine and executive-production colleagues. The Slovenian Tourist Board placed the series within his tourism-ambassador work. His foundation describes youth development through sport, play spaces, wellness support, research and community partnerships. Based in Ljubljana and Los Angeles, it brings community work into the public record alongside his playing and production roles. In a dated Nike interview, he discusses fishing, boating, gaming and grilling. These are his own accounts in a brand-interview setting. His 2024 long-form interview describes his father’s basketball background and three animal companions; the household account remains historical. His 2025 preparation interviews document Team Luka’s offseason training work, rather than a permanent routine or general advice. The nutrition account describes offseason meals and flexibility during competition. September 2026 coverage discusses Lakers leadership.
