Nicole Kidman

Actor and producer

Born 1967

Nicole Kidman is an Australian actor born in Honolulu and raised in Sydney. Her career moves between intimate drama, large studio films and television. She sought out theatre classes as a child, describing acting as a calling she pursued herself rather than a path chosen by her parents. Dead Calm brought international attention, and Days of Thunder introduced her to Hollywood audiences. To Die For showed a sharply comic side of her screen presence. The Portrait of a Lady, Eyes Wide Shut and The Others placed her in very different dramatic worlds, while Moulin Rouge! gave her the musical role of Satine. Her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours earned the Academy Award for leading actress in 2003. She also returned to the stage in The Blue Room and Photograph 51, earning London theatre recognition for both productions. Production became another part of her work through Blossom Films, the company she co-founded with Per Saari. Big Little Lies brought Emmy recognition for her performance and for her work as an executive producer on the limited series. Subsequent projects include The Undoing, Expats and The Perfect Couple, reflecting her continued involvement in television as both performer and producer. In a recent interview, she discussed returning to Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and the place of reading and poetry in her life. Her current screen work also includes Scarpetta, in which she plays forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta. Alongside her screen work, she has served as a goodwill ambassador for UN Women, connecting her public platform with work on women’s rights and equality. She also joined Margo’s Got Money Troubles as a performer and executive producer.
