Ranbir Kapoor is an Indian actor and producer working in Hindi cinema. Born in Bombay to Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, he grew up within the Kapoor film family. After school and college in Mumbai, he studied filmmaking and acting in New York. His direct GQ interview recalls the School of Visual Arts, the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and later assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black. In his TBIP interview, he recalled parents who kept him and his sister away from film sets during childhood. Studying in New York gave him independence and exposure to different cultures; he initially considered directing or producing as well as acting. Bhansali’s Saawariya introduced him as a leading feature actor in 2007. Bachna Ae Haseeno followed, then a 2009 range spanning Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. Their combined recognition brought a Filmfare Critics award. Raajneeti, Rockstar and Barfi! expanded his screen work through political drama, music and physical comedy, with the latter two receiving acting honors. Discussing Rockstar with SBS in 2011, he explained that preparation included the character’s social background, movement and speech. He distinguished playing emotional upheaval from carrying the character’s behavior into his own life. His subsequent films include Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bombay Velvet, Tamasha and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Jagga Jasoos also brought a producer credit, and Sanju cast him as Sanjay Dutt. The 2022 films Shamshera and Brahmāstra preceded Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Animal in 2023. Documentary appearances include The Romantics and Dining with the Kapoors, alongside occasional cameos and award-show hosting. Official 2026 Ramayana materials introduce him as Rama, with Part One still forthcoming. September coverage places Love & War in post-production with a planned 2027 release. His work beyond films includes founding involvement in Mumbai City FC and the 2026 shower-brand launch Flux Theory. Public interviews also document dated reading, football, food and character-scent habits. He married Alia Bhatt in April 2022.
