Ranveer Singh

Actor and producer

Born 1985

Ranveer Singh is an Indian actor working primarily in Hindi cinema. Born in Bombay, he grew up in Khar with an elder sister and an enthusiasm for popular films and performance. His long interviews describe H.R. College, undergraduate study at Indiana University in Bloomington, and the acting classes that renewed his ambition to work in films. After returning to Mumbai he worked in advertising, including O&M and JWT, while seeking acting opportunities. He told Open Magazine that college theatre extended beyond acting: he helped with lighting, sound and production for performances attended by town residents. That practical experience strengthened his decision to return to mainstream Hindi cinema. Yash Raj Films launched him opposite Anushka Sharma in Maneesh Sharma’s Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010. The wedding-planner comedy brought a Filmfare debut award. Ladies vs Ricky Bahl followed, while 2013 paired the restrained period romance Lootera with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram-Leela. Gunday, Kill Dil and Dil Dhadakne Do expanded his work across action and ensemble comedy. Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani brought the Filmfare Best Actor award, followed by Befikre, Padmaavat and Rohit Shetty’s Simmba. Gully Boy cast him as aspiring rapper Murad and earned another acting honor. His subsequent work includes the cricket film 83, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Cirkus and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He has also hosted The Big Picture, appeared in documentary series and worked in branded short films. The 2025 Dhurandhar and its 2026 sequel cast him in Aditya Dhar’s spy-thriller world. September 2026 trade reporting places him in production on Jai Mehta’s Pralay, also as a producer; it remains forthcoming. Outside acting, dated interviews document music, food, swimming and character-specific fragrance habits. His 2026 Ajmal campaign is a commercial association. He married Deepika Padukone in 2018, and their September 2026 joint announcement welcomed a second daughter.
