Rosalía Biography
Rosalía is a Spanish singer, songwriter and producer who moves between flamenco, pop and electronic music. She grew up in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, in Catalonia’s Baix Llobregat. Her childhood surroundings included factories and the flamenco culture brought by families from southern Spain. In a direct interview, she described those memories as part of the imagery behind Malamente. Her mother enrolled her at Ses Dansa at five. She attended La Roureda school, later studied jazz and flamenco at Taller de Músics, and continued at ESMUC. Small Barcelona venues and work at Tablao Carmen preceded her international career. Critic Luís Troquel introduced her to Raül Refree, with whom she made Los Ángeles. Sónar in 2018 became an important turning point. Los Ángeles, released in 2017, was her exploration of the tradition she had studied. El Mal Querer followed in 2018, bringing composition and electronic production into the foreground. Its narrative drew on the medieval Flamenca and grew from her final degree project. She worked with El Guincho and the filmmaking collective Canada while combining flamenco imagery with modern visual language. In a later interview she recalled how Juanes introduced her to Rebeca León, her first manager, after seeing a traditional flamenco performance in Madrid. Her catalogue expanded through Con Altura with J Balvin, TKN with Travis Scott, Lo Vas a Olvidar with Billie Eilish, Linda with Tokischa and La Fama with The Weeknd. Motomami arrived in 2022, followed by the joint RR EP with Rauw Alejandro. Later collaborations include New Woman with Lisa and Omega with Ralphie Choo. Screen work includes Rosita in Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory and Magick in Euphoria. Her fourth album, LUX, was announced for November 7, 2025, with Rosalía as executive producer. Its orchestral collaborators included conductor Daníel Bjarnason, with guest voices including Björk, Carminho and Estrella Morente. The subsequent Complete Works edition appears in the official catalogue. The Lux Tour ended in Miami in September 2026; its completed finale is distinct from earlier announced tour plans. El Mal Querer and Motomami earned her two Grammy album wins. The official Latin Academy record lists eleven wins and seven nominations for the forthcoming 2026 ceremony. Her 2026 honours also include a BRIT, an Ivor and eight awards from Spain’s music academy. In 2024 she launched a scholarship at ESMUC for flamenco study, reconnecting her public work with the institution where she trained.
