Born 1994
Saoirse Ronan is an Irish actor, producer and filmmaker born in the Bronx to Irish parents. Her family returned to Ireland while her father was building an acting career, and she grew up around film sets. Her screen work began with The Clinic and I Could Never Be Your Woman before Atonement brought international recognition. She moves between literary adaptations, coming-of-age stories and genre films, including The Lovely Bones, Hanna, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, Little Women and Ammonite. She won a Golden Globe for Lady Bird and has Academy Award nominations for Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women. Her stage work includes Abigail Williams in The Crucible on Broadway and Lady Macbeth at the Almeida. Later films include Foe, The Outrun, which she also produced, Blitz and Bad Apples. Venice's 2026 programme credits her as writer and director of Paper Plane. She discussed the short and Bad Apples with BFI that September, while filming Sam Mendes's Beatles project as Linda McCartney.
