Born 1992
Selena Gomez is an American actor, singer, producer, director and entrepreneur whose career has moved from children's television into screen comedy and drama, pop music, production, beauty and mental-health advocacy. Born and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas, she first appeared as Gianna on Barney & Friends, made guest appearances on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana, and became internationally known as Alex Russo on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place. That period also included Princess Protection Program, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie and Ramona and Beezus. Gomez recorded three albums with Selena Gomez & the Scene before building a solo catalogue around Stars Dance, Revival, Rare and the Spanish-language EP Revelación. Her adult screen choices widened from Spring Breakers to The Big Short, The Fundamentals of Caring, The Dead Don't Die and the Hotel Transylvania voice franchise. Behind the camera, she executive-produced 13 Reasons Why, the immigration docuseries Living Undocumented, The Broken Hearts Gallery and, from 2021, Only Murders in the Building, in which she also stars as Mabel Mora. The series brought her a lead-acting Emmy nomination and five Outstanding Comedy Series nominations as a producer through 2026. She played Jessi Del Monte in Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez, sharing the 2024 Cannes best-actress prize with the film's other three leads, and documented a six-year personal and professional period in Apple's Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. Gomez returned to Alex Russo as a guest star and executive producer of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place; Disney later announced that she would direct the premiere of its 2026 concluding event, her directing debut. Her current screen slate also includes the London-set sixth season of Only Murders in the Building, scheduled for December 2026. In music, she and Benny Blanco released the collaborative album I Said I Love You First in 2025 before marrying that September. Gomez founded Rare Beauty and the Rare Impact Fund in 2020, linking the company to youth mental-health access, and has served as a UNICEF Ambassador since 2009.
