Son Heung-min

Professional footballer

Born 1992

Son Heung-min is a South Korean forward and national-team captain whose two-footed finishing, speed and sustained production made him one of the most consequential Asian players in European football. Raised in Chuncheon, he learned through an exacting technical programme led by his father, former professional Son Woong-jung, and moved to Germany as a teenager to join Hamburger SV's academy. After Bundesliga spells with Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen, Son joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2015. Across a decade in north London he scored 173 goals in 454 appearances in all competitions, became the first Asian player to reach 100 Premier League goals, shared the 2021-22 Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah, won the FIFA Puskas Award for his solo goal against Burnley and succeeded Hugo Lloris as club captain. In May 2025 he captained Tottenham to the UEFA Europa League title, the club's first trophy in 17 years, before moving to Los Angeles FC that August. His first 13 LAFC matches produced 12 goals and four assists including the 2025 MLS Goal of the Year; in 2026 he became MLS All-Star Game MVP and, through the completed September 19 league match, had six regular-season goals and a league-leading 13 assists. Internationally, Son won 2018 Asian Games gold, played at four World Cups through 2026 and entered that tournament as Korea Republic's record appearance-maker. His public interviews also document a disciplined recovery-centred routine, affection for Korean home cooking, selective skincare and fragrance preferences, while his private relationship and pet status remain unconfirmed rather than inferred.
