SUGA

Rapper, songwriter and music producer

Born 1993

SUGA is the South Korean rapper, songwriter and producer Min Yoon-gi, born in Daegu. Before BTS, he rapped, made beats and produced for a local hip-hop crew. His production later became part of BTS’s albums from Skool Luv Affair onward. He debuted with the group in June 2013. Wings expanded the group’s catalogue. Love Yourself: Answer brought together that album series. Map of the Soul: 7 followed in 2020. Agust D gives his solo work a separate identity, combining reversed SUGA with initials referring to Daegu. The 2016 mixtape includes The Last and Tony Montana. D-2 followed in 2020 with Daechwita and People. D-DAY completed the trilogy in 2023 and paired him with IU on People Pt. 2. Snooze joined him with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Woosung. His production outside BTS includes work with Suran, Halsey, Epik High and PSY. You brought another production collaboration with ØMI. Song Request with Lee So-ra features his rap and writing; Tablo produced the recording. Samsung commissioned his versions of Over the Horizon. Road to D-DAY followed the making of his solo album. He took his solo work on an international tour in 2023. A concert film followed in 2024. A Seoul court fined him for electric-scooter driving under the influence in 2024. He apologized again when his social-service duty ended in June 2025. His philanthropy includes funding the Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center at Severance Hospital for children with autism. In 2026, he returned to BTS’s ARIRANG era. He also produced Come Over with Cirkut and Ammo. Suchwita extends his screen work into hosting conversations with musicians and other guests.
