Aamir Khan is an Indian actor, producer, director and television host whose selective, research-led approach has repeatedly joined mainstream Hindi cinema to unusually ambitious subjects. Born into a filmmaking family, he appeared as a child performer in Yaadon Ki Baaraat, worked behind the camera as an assistant director, and made his adult breakthrough in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Raakh, Dil, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Andaz Apna Apna, Rangeela, Raja Hindustani, Ghulam, Sarfarosh and 1947: Earth then established a career willing to move between romance, comedy and social drama; he also co-wrote Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. He founded Aamir Khan Productions to make Lagaan, serving as star and producer of the cricket epic that became India's Academy Award nominee. Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Talaash, Dhoom 3, PK and Dangal extended his reach, while Taare Zameen Par marked his feature-directing debut. As a producer he has backed films including Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, Peepli Live, Delhi Belly, Secret Superstar and Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies; on television, Satyamev Jayate used a prime-time talk format for reporting on social issues. After Laal Singh Chaddha, he returned to a leading role with R. S. Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par in 2025 and made guest appearances in Coolie and Happy Patel. His work since then has included the Aamir Khan Talkies distribution and filmmaking channel, a 2026 BFI career conversation, Screen Academy teaching, and a stated decision to prioritize acting while the production company released Happy Patel, Ek Din and Batwara 1947. In September 2026 the Singapore International Film Festival announced him as its Screen Icon Award recipient. He remains closely associated with Paani Foundation and Agatsu Foundation, and married Gauri Spratt in July 2026.
