Kareena Kapoor Khan

Actor, producer and author

Born 1980

Kareena Kapoor Khan is an Indian actor working primarily in Hindi cinema. Born in Bombay to Randhir Kapoor and Babita, she grew up in the Kapoor film family with her elder sister Karisma. Her early education included schooling in Mumbai and Dehradun and commerce studies at Mithibai. In her May 2000 interview, she described a short Harvard course in microcomputers and information technology. She entered films with an established interest in performance rather than a claimed university degree. J. P. Dutta’s Refugee launched her opposite Abhishek Bachchan in 2000 and brought a Filmfare debut award. A busy first decade ranged from Pooja in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to the title role in Chameli, Aaliya in Dev and Dolly in Omkara. The latter films brought Filmfare recognition, while Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met made Geet another widely identified role and earned the leading-actress award. Looking back in 2020, she described stepping away from repetitive parts after a run of disappointments. Imtiaz Ali’s approach for Jab We Met renewed her interest; she credited less conventional collaborations with helping her develop as an actor. Her work continued across ensemble drama, romance, comedy and action, including 3 Idiots, We Are Family, Bodyguard, Heroine, Talaash, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Ki & Ka and Udta Punjab. Veere Di Wedding and Good Newwz extended the ensemble-comedy strand. In a 2023 interview she described deliberately balancing commercial films with more concentrated character work. Jaane Jaan cast her as Maya in a streaming thriller; The Buckingham Murders also marked a production role. Crew and Singham Again followed in 2024. Her work beyond acting includes What Women Want radio and screen hosting, television judging, Hindi voice work and two coauthored books. UNICEF India appointed her National Ambassador in 2024 after a decade as Celebrity Advocate. She married Saif Ali Khan in 2012. The 2025 family documentary Dining with the Kapoors includes them both, and September 2026 coverage confirms her released crime drama Daayra, in which she plays vigilance officer Ajooni.
